VILLA PARK : Police Helicopter Use Already Funded

The city will get police helicopter protection without having to pay for it this year.

The reason: Villa Park did not use any of the helicopter-surveillance flights it had paid for in the previous fiscal year.

City Manager Fred Maley, in a report to the City Council on Tuesday night, said the city had contracted last year for 19 police helicopter calls--the estimated number of flights police thought they would need--at $115 a flight. The city paid AirBorne Law Enforcement Services $2,185.

But Villa Park did not have to call for the helicopters during the past fiscal year, so the helicopter service will not charge the city for protection this fiscal year, which ends June 20, 1996, Maley said.
