Businessman Fred H. Bice Dies; Established Professorship at USC

Fred H. Bice, a businessman who established a fully endowed professorship in law at USC in 1989, died Monday at home here after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 86.

“He has given so much to the community,” said neighbor Jan Landstrom. “We’re going to miss him terribly.”

Bice was born in Alhambra and attended USC. He served as vice president of Utility Metal Products in Pasadena. He was also involved in developing the Playport Mobile Village in Costa Mesa.

Bice often sailed the coast from Mexico to Alaska and cheered for his alma mater at USC football games. He was a member of the Pasadena Power Squadron, the Cherry Cove Yacht Club, the Shark Island Yacht Club, USC Associates and the Trojan Club.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Barbara Bice of Pasadena; a daughter, Kathleen Bice of Cazenovia, N.Y.; and a niece, Bev Roeske of Ridgewood, N.J.

Memorial services will be private.
