The Speaker of the Turkish Parliament resigned, worsening a crisis that has crippled the government since Prime Minister Tansu Ciller and her Cabinet resigned nearly two weeks ago. Speaker Husamettin Cindoruk is expected to launch a challenge to Ciller’s leadership of the center-right True Path Party. the biggest in the Parliament. The political complication came as the biggest public-sector strike in the country’s history spread to about 300,000 workers.
