Pepsi Deal Boosts Black-Owned Firm: Pepsi-Cola Co. signed a deal with International Packaging Corp. that will make the packaging firm one of the largest black-owned businesses in the country. Under the terms of the five-year, $75-million contract, Pepsi will buy about 100 million corrugated boxes from IPC each year for use in shipping cans and bottles to retailers and other businesses. Sixteen Pepsi plants in eight states will use IPC boxes. The deal will make IPC the largest single supplier of boxes to Pepsi, officials said. With the contract, IPC is projected to rank 49th on Black Enterprise magazine’s annual list of the largest black-owned industrial and service companies, officials said.
