Former Intel Employee Pleads Innocent: Guillermo Gaede, who claims to have passed chip-making secrets to foreign governments, pleaded innocent to charges of giving Santa Clara, Calif.-based Intel Corp. information to an industry rival. Gaede, 43, a former Intel employee, was arraigned in U.S. District Court on charges of mail fraud and interstate transportation of stolen property. If convicted, he could spend up to 14 years in jail and pay up to $500,000 in fines. He is accused of giving videotapes with proprietary information about Intel’s top-selling 486 and Pentium microprocessors to Advanced Micro Devices Inc., Intel’s biggest competitor. AMD promptly notified Intel when it received the information in January, according to authorities.
