‘Technicalities’

Share

In Tom Plate’s Oct. 17 column he stated that “courts let people off on technicalities.” Perhaps he should remember that those “technicalities,” as he refers to them, are the laws of our society, some of them included in our Constitution by the Founding Fathers of our country.

If a court lets a person off on a technicality, it is because the police and/or the prosecution didn’t follow the law when they were discovering, collecting, maintaining or presenting their evidence. These are not “technicalities,” they are what protect us all from improper arrest and prosecution.
