EVERYWHERE

Sow: Onions, peas, radishes, winter greens and herbs (except in high desert and mountains), broccoli, Brussels sprouts (except in high desert, interior climates where fuchsias won’t grow and mountains).

Harvest: Asian greens, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, collards, green garlic, onions, shallots, herbs, kale, salad greens, chard, kohlrabi, radishes, spinach, turnips (except in low desert), cauliflower, peas (except in high mountains), jerusalem artichokes, pumpkins, gourds, winter squashes (except in high desert and mountains), also leafy celery, corn, cucumbers, melons, watermelons, peppers, tomatillos, tomatoes (except in deserts and mountains).

* COASTAL CLIMATES

Harvest: Assorted beans, beets.

* LOW DESERT

Sow: Beets, cardoons, carrots, cauliflower, fennel, kohlrabi, turnips, winter greens and herbs.

* HIGH DESERT

Harvest: Low Desert plus beets.

* KEY

Sow, plant and harvest in cold frame where there are freezes.

When seeds can be sown, seedlings of the same crop can be planted. All crops can be grown in containers.

Winter greens and herbs: Arugula, cabbage, chard, chervil, chicories, Chinese cabbages, chives, cilantro, collards, corn salad, cress, dandelion, endive, green-in-the-snow mustard, green onions, shallots, kale, komatsuna (mustard spinach), lettuce, mizuna, parsley, rosette pak choi, sorrel, spinach.
