LAPD Opens Internal Affairs Office to Handle Complaints

Share

Los Angeles Police Chief Willie L. Williams on Wednesday announced the opening of a Hollywood Internal Affairs public office to investigate citizen and employee complaints against the department.

The West Bureau facility, second of four planned sites, is part of a four-year plan that started in 1993, Williams said. He called the opening “tangible evidence that the Police Department is moving forward.”

The four bureaus are being opened in response to a Christopher Commission recommendation that the “Internal Affairs Division, rather than patrol divisions, investigate most citizen complaints of officer misconduct,” Williams said.
