Westside : City Donates Fire Engine to Mazatlan
- Share via
The Santa Monica Fire Department is handing over one of its fire engines to firefighters in Mazatlan, Mexico, this weekend as part of the sister city program.
Eight Mazatlan firefighters have been visiting Santa Monica all week to learn how to operate the 1980 fire engine, officials said.
Although the donation was approved by the Santa Monica City Council a year ago, officials had been unable to find a way to get the vehicle to Mazatlan.
But the U.S. Navy has now volunteered to deliver the truck by ship. Two Santa Monica firefighters will drive the vehicle to San Diego on Sunday for loading onto a Navy transport.
