BOLSA BINGO: One new way to fight for the environment: Bingo. To raise money to save Bolsa Chica from developers’ bulldozers, the Bolsa Chica Land Trust has created an educational bingo game. Its goal is to sell a thousand sets, at $12.50 each. It’s not just standard bingo: The colorful board game depicts pictures of the Bolsa Chica wetlands--where a 3,300-home development is proposed--and its environmental benefits. . . . Says Flossie Horgan, one of its founders: “We want the public to know what the Bolsa Chica has and what’s at risk if it’s lost. This game does both.”

SHORT CONTRACT? Movie theater owner James Edwards Sr.--425 regional screens (D1)--believes in long-term relationships. He’s been happily married for 63 years, and for 63 years he’s had the same secretary, Marcella Sheldon. . . . Quips Sheldon, whose loyalty to her boss is legendary within the Edwards organization: “When he hired me he said it was temporary. I’m still here and I’m still temporary.”

DOUBLE BILL: Consumer advocate Ralph Nader will appear here Thursday for two speeches--and two separate causes. . . . At Leisure World in Laguna Hills, he’ll seek volunteers for his new Citizens Brigade against Medicare cuts. And at Cal State Fullerton later, he’s keynote speaker at an environmental conference. . . . Maria C. Linder, one of its organizers, says she expects “some lively discussion. You never know what he will say. He’s done a lot to raise our consciousness on issues people should be concerned about.”

FREE HAUL: If you have a car that doesn’t run--or one you hate enough to get rid of--the local American Red Cross chapter has a new program with you in mind. It will haul your old car off your property at no charge--call (800) 435-7130. . . . The Red Cross will sell the cars to replace funds that have gone toward recent disasters. Says local chairwoman Dolores Churchill: “It’s a painless way to dispose of old cars and make this a better place to live at the same time.”
