Share

More than 670 people have signed petitions opposing adult entertainment businesses in the community, a resident who is spearheading the petition campaign said.

Robert H. Rusoff said the petitions will be given to the Planning Commission at Wednesday’s meeting.

The commission will hold its fourth public hearing on a proposed ordinance to regulate where adult-oriented businesses can locate in Fountain Valley. The planning staff is recommending that such businesses be within the Southpark industrial and commercial area, east of Euclid Street and west of the Santa Ana River.

City officials have said that adult entertainment businesses, such as nude or topless clubs, cannot be banned in Fountain Valley and are protected under the First Amendment. The city has imposed a moratorium on adult entertainment businesses to study the issue but it expires in February.

The City Council is expected to hold a hearing on the proposed ordinance Nov. 21.

Wednesday’s Planning Commission meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers, 10200 Slater Ave.
