Disbelief and disgust are the best way to characterize how I feel regarding Laurence Powell’s “homecoming welcome” (Oct. 28). Powell is a convicted felon and our politicians have chosen to overlook this and make Powell a hero for nearly beating a man to death. What a blatant slap in the face to all victims who have been brutalized by some police officers.

How nice, the main course will be steak, because “he gets two years for just doing his job.”

Three cheers, I say, for Supervisor Mike Antonovich and the others that are preparing to celebrate the release of Powell from prison. Officers Stacey Koon and Powell should have been given medals for what they did to Rodney King, not jail.

The second trial was a travesty of justice, a kangaroo court from beginning to end, and further proof that, in the war between the criminal element and honest citizens, the federal government’s sympathies lie with the former.

On the date of the welcome home dinner, perhaps Supervisor Antonovich could pick up Powell from the halfway house in a Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter.
