Starter Homes: With home sales still declining this year in Orange County, first-time buyers still represent a significant percentage of all buyers but not as great as in years past, according to TRW REDI Property Data in Anaheim, a real estate data company. In 1988, 21,536 homes sold for less than $175,000 (the maximum price considered for entry-level housing), making up 38% of the market. Last year, the number of first-time buyers dropped to 11,199 and made up 31% of the market. So far this year, 7,282 homes were purchased for less than $175,000, making up 35% of the market, TRW said.
