Police arrested a second man Wednesday in the beating of a Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus driver who was involved in a fatal traffic accident in South-Central Los Angeles.

Lawrence Cooks, 22, is suspected of beating and kicking MTA driver Donald DeBoe, 57, who remained in critical but stable condition at County-USC Medical Center.

Another suspect, Bernard LeGrone, 18, was arrested Tuesday. LeGrone and Cooks were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police said. Both are friends of Jafar Broussard, who was fatally injured in the traffic accident, police said.

Broussard, who was riding a minibike, reportedly failed to stop at an intersection and was struck by the bus.

When DeBoe left the bus to check on Broussard, he was attacked. Police identified the suspects after receiving tips from neighborhood residents, who are eligible to split a total of $30,000 in reward money if the men are convicted.
