The American Red Cross is joining Ventura County’s Filipino community in an appeal for donations to victims of Typhoon Angela.

Last week, the storm brought 125-m.p.h. winds to the Philippines, killing hundreds of people and leaving thousands homeless. It was the most powerful typhoon to hit the island nation in almost a decade.

Nationally, the Red Cross is seeking $555,000 in cash to assist 15,000 victims over the next two months. It has raised $86,000 so far.
