FOUNTAIN VALLEY : Improvements Sought on Flood Channels

Share

Concerned about runoff during winter storms, the city will ask the Orange County Flood Control District to consider paying for improvements to two channels.

The City Council has agreed to request money to upgrade the East Garden Grove-Wintersburg Channel and the Talbert Channel. The projected cost for both is $17.9 million.

Improvements would include widening the East Garden-Grove Wintersburg Channel and lining it with concrete from Quartz to Bushard streets. During heavy storms, the channel causes flooding on Bushard, city officials said.

The project would increase the channel’s capacity and would include other downstream improvements for the Bushard area.

The second project would widen the Talbert Channel and line it with concrete from Indianapolis to Adams avenues, within the Huntington Beach city limits. Huntington Beach is asking Orange County to help pay for improvements to the Talbert Channel, one of the primary drainage ways for Fountain Valley.
