5 Breast Implant Makers OK New Settlement: Under it, women would be paid as much as $250,000 each, but the deal was not enough to persuade Dow Corning Inc., the industry’s largest manufacturer, to participate. The new settlement of legal claims related to silicone-gel breast implants partially replaces a $4.25-billion deal that collapsed earlier this year. It covers women with implants made by Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., Baxter International Inc., Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Co. and McGhan Medical Inc. and also implants using silicone gel made by Union Carbide Corp. The new pact settles some of the implant lawsuits that were consolidated in U.S. District Court in Birmingham, Ala.
