Magic Software Enterprises: The Israeli software company, which has suffered steep losses in recent years, said it has appointed a new management team to run its Irvine-based United States subsidiary. Uzi Yair, the former top executive of Liant Software, was named chief executive of Magic’s U.S. operations. He replaces David Wegman, who remains with the company as vice president of strategic alliances in the United States. Jeffrey Starr, former vice president of worldwide marketing for Magic, will now oversee its marketing efforts in the United States. He replaces Basil Maloney, who left Magic “to pursue other interests,” the company said. Ken Matsagas, a former sales director with Sterling Software, was appointed to the newly created position of vice president of Magic’s U.S. sales.

“These appointments demonstrate Magic’s strong commitment to penetrate the United States market,” said David Assia, chairman of the parent company. Magic, whose products help companies customize their accounting and financial software, reported a loss of $1.46 million on sales of $16.5 million for the nine months that ended Sept. 30. U.S. sales typically account for about 22% of the company’s worldwide revenue, a company spokeswoman said.
