North Hollywood : Affordable Units Available to Families

Share

A low-rent apartment complex will accept applications beginning Monday from families seeking affordable housing combined with on-site social services in North Hollywood.

North Hollywood Apartments, 6724 Tujunga Ave., has several one- and two-bedroom units available immediately and could have as many as seven more open in the next few weeks, according to the building’s property manager.

“We’ve exhausted all the applications for apartments collected over the years, and now some units are available,” said Edmund Gonzales, property manager for the Los Angeles-based nonprofit Volunteers of America, which owns and operates the building.

Units are available to families only. Residents are not required to be recipients of public assistance, but preference will be given to people 62 and older and disabled people on fixed incomes, Gonzales said.

“The apartments are relatively small,” Gonzales said. “We’re seeking families of at least two people, perhaps a single mother with two children, and the elderly and disabled.”

Gonzales added that about 80 of the 475 units in the complex are currently occupied by senior citizens. About six apartments have been modified to accommodate disabled people or wheelchair-bound individuals.

The building has a parent-child center with day-care services and a Head Start program for pre-kindergartners. Adolescent programs are offered for children 7 to 17 years old, including peer counseling and classes focusing on nature and environmental conservation.

Prospective applicants should send a letter including their name, address and telephone number to North Hollywood Apartments, Rental Application, 6724 Tujunga Ave., North Hollywood 91606. Telephone or drop-in requests for applications will not be accepted.
