San Gabriel Valley : RECALL EFFORT
Angered by proposals to build a center for teen-agers at a city park, several Duarte residents are leading a drive to oust the mayor and two city council members.
Michelle Silence and more than 20 of her neighbors presented a petition Tuesday night at the City Council meeting asking for a recall of Mayor James Kirchner and council members Margaret Finley and Philip Reyes. The council voted unanimously last year to approve the center.
The neighbors said they do not oppose the planned youth center, just its proposed location--a park on Brycedale Avenue between Maynard Drive and Bloomdale Street.
But the park location is a condition of the $388,000 county grant the city received to build the center, Kirchner said.
