OXNARD : Waste Commission Agrees to Disband

Share

The Ventura County Waste Commission has agreed to begin the process of disbanding the 6-year-old agency, which advises the Board of Supervisors on countywide trash issues.

The commission voted Thursday to transfer its responsibilities to the Ventura Council of Governments, which includes representatives from each of the county’s 10 cities.

The change would allow officials from the east and west county to still have a forum in which to discuss countywide garbage concerns.

The council of governments has set a long-term goal of consolidating existing regional organizations and boards under a single organizational umbrella.

The 12-member waste commission, which includes county and city officials, was founded in 1989 to assist in countywide waste planning.

Dissolution of the waste commission must be approved by the Board of Supervisors, which will consider the issue Tuesday.
