A Holey Ritual

Share

I introduced my husband to bagels in 1976 after carefully explaining to him that bagels were an ethnic, culinary delight with strict rules about how they should be eaten (“What Should Never be Put On or In a Bagel?” Palm Latitudes, Sept. 17). He instantly fell in love with them and has eaten one daily for breakfast since then, emphasizing the blueberry and cinnamon-raisin varieties.

But get this--he smears peanut butter on them. I told him no one puts peanut butter on a bagel, that it probably was contrary to Kosher dietary rules. He ignored me, and finally, I even gave in and tried it.

You know what? It’s not bad at all.
