Nissan to Stop Exporting Z Cars to U.S.: With U.S. demand for sports cars shrinking, Nissan Motor Co. decided it would not be worth investing several hundred million dollars to change its design just to meet tougher U.S. environmental and safety requirements that take effect in 1997, company spokesman Eijiro Fukai said. The exports could end as soon as next summer. Nissan has exported Z cars to the United States and Canada since 1960. The trend reached a peak in 1984, when 90% of the 100,000 Z cars produced in Japan were shipped to North America, Fukai said.
