Mission Seeks Help for Holiday Events
The Ventura County Rescue Mission in Oxnard plans to serve more than 750 traditional turkey dinners during its annual pre-Thanksgiving lunch Wednesday, and is asking the public for help during the holidays.
More than 80 volunteers are expected to help serve the meals to the needy, and the Steve Hill Country Band will be on hand to provide some festive music.
Nevertheless, the Rescue Mission could still use some more help with the lunch and with some other upcoming holiday events, said Wayne Hopkins, community relations representative. The Rescue Mission hosts several other holiday celebrations, including a dinner on Christmas.
Located at 234 E. Sixth St. in downtown Oxnard, the Rescue Mission has been helping the county’s homeless and needy people for 23 years. It serves an average about 350 meals a day, and operates a 12-month drug and alcohol rehabilitation program.
The Rescue Mission does not accept any government or United Way funding. Those interested in volunteering or donating during its increased holiday drive should call 487-1234 for further information.
