Marcus Mattson; Prominent Attorney, Antitrust Specialist

Marcus Mattson, 91, former president of the American College of Trial Lawyers. After growing up in Ogden, Utah, Mattson earned his undergraduate degree at UC Berkeley and his law degree from Boalt Hall Law School. He joined the prominent Los Angeles law firm of Lawler, Felix & Hall in 1930 and practiced law for six decades, taking what he jokingly called “early retirement” in 1990 at the age of 86. A specialist in antitrust law, Mattson served as chairman of the antitrust section of the American Bar Assn. and was an adviser to the Federal Trade Commission on rules of practice and procedure. He also served on the board of governors and the committee of bar examiners of the State Bar of California. On Friday in San Mateo.
