Firm Plans World’s Tallest Building in China: The Japanese property management company Forest Overseas Co. says the 1,509-foot, 95-story International Financial Center Tower in Shanghai would top the 1,430-foot, 100-story Sears Tower in Chicago by 79 feet, China’s official New China News Agency reported. Construction will start before spring, 1997, and be completed by 2001, the news agency said, citing Junnrian Mori, president of Japanese company. The building will have 3.4 million square feet of office space. The project will need an investment of $960 million, the news agency quoted Mori as saying. Forest Overseas will supply 30%, and the rest will be shared among the 36 Japanese and U.S. companies that will use the building and the Japan Overseas Economic Cooperation Fund.
