Central Los Angeles : Public Hearing Set on Rezoning Plan

Share

A public hearing on the rezoning of Northeast Los Angeles has been scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Lincoln Heights Senior Citizen Center, 2323 Workman St.

The rezoning would affect a 25.6-square-mile area that includes all or parts of the neighborhoods of Eagle Rock, El Sereno, Highland Park, Glassell Park, Cypress Park and Lincoln Heights.

The Northeast Action Alliance, a coalition of neighborhood leaders, is opposing the rezoning plan, saying it would increase the number of apartment buildings and commercial structures in an already overcrowded area of Los Angeles.

The draft environmental impact report does not address how additional development would put pressure on police, schools and the water system, Byrd said.

Before the public hearing, an informal question and answer session with city planners will be held at 4 p.m.

A second question-and-answer session, held by the Community Planning Advisory Committee, which is not associated with the city’s planning department, is slated for 1 p.m. Dec. 2, at the Lower Harrick Room at Occidental College at 1600 College Road in Eagle Rock.
