SANTA ANA : Literary Magazine to Be Ready Next Week

Share

The fall edition of Vista, the literary and art magazine produced twice a year by students at Santa Ana High School, is due out next week.

The collection of poems, short stories and drawings was started by English teacher Kay Grablein 1992.

“It’s a good little magazine,” said local bookstore owner and Vista adviser Rueben Martinez. “It inspires young writers to become something.”

The publication is distributed free to Santa Ana High students and others. Martinez, who stocks the publication at his Martinez Books and Art store in downtown Santa Ana, said he accepts donations, which go to the school.

Los Amigos of Orange County, a Latino rights group, and the Santa Ana City Council have recognized the publication with proclamations and awards.

Vista was conceived as a one-time project but caught on with the students. The issues do not follow any particular theme, Assistant Principal Dee Gomez said. Some of the writings are in Spanish.

The new issue is 64 pages, and 2,000 copies are expected to be ready next week, Gomez said.
