Sylmar : Business Park, Golf Course Approved

A proposed business park and 18-hole golf course in Sylmar cleared its final hurdle Wednesday after a city planning official signed off on recent changes to the project.

After the meeting, Darryl Fisher, who is the one-man Deputy Advisory Agency, said he approved the updated project because the one significant change--adding the golf course--would be good for the community. The advisory agency is charged with reviewing subdivision proposals in Los Angeles.

“The golf course is a desirable feature for the north Valley because they don’t have that many,” Fisher said.

Other changes included a decrease in business park development, from 2 million to 1.9 million square feet, and an increase in the number of homes proposed, from 31 to 46. The 262-acre project, known as the Silver Oaks Business Park, is located near the interchange of the Golden State and Foothill freeways.

Honolulu-based Royal-Clark Development Co. expects to begin construction in the spring. The golf course is expected to be completed by the end of next year and the first phase of the business park and the first homes by mid-1997.
