A stamp issued last month to mark the bicentennial of President James K. Polk’s birth is a dud at the stamp window. “It’s too bad, but the Polk stamp is pretty drab,” said Judy Gurkin of the U.S. Postal Service.

“I have not moved the Polk stamp at all, which is a shame, because he was a great man,” said Mary Drake, a clerk at Charlotte’s downtown post office. Polk was born on a family farm south of Pineville, N.C.
