Cambodia Turns Over Remains of U.S. Servicemen
Bones, teeth and artifacts of several U.S. servicemen missing in Cambodia during the Vietnam War were handed over to U.S. officials in Phnom Penh on Monday.
An undetermined number of remains were given to U.S. officials in six coffins draped with American flags. They were recovered at two sites.
Some remains were recovered at the site of the Mayaguez rescue mission. The cargo ship was seized in 1975 by Communist Khmer Rouge troops. Thirty-eight U.S. soldiers died attempting to free the crew.
Meanwhile, remains of seven U.S. Air Force servicemen shot down over Laos during the Vietnam War have been identified, U.S. Embassy officials in Laos said Monday.
They were identified as Sgt. Dale Brandenburg, Sgt. Peter R. Cressman, Sgt. Joseph A. Matejov, Sgt. Todd M. Melton, Lt. Severo J. Primm III, Capt. George R. Spitz and one crew member whose name was withheld until his relatives can be notified.
