Plane Crash Kills 49 in Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan —
Forty-nine people were killed and 33 injured when an airliner crashed Tuesday night in Azerbaijan’s enclave of Nakhichevan, a government commission investigating the accident said today. Initial reports had put the death toll at 10.
The commission said the twin-engined TU-134 went down shortly after takeoff from the enclave’s capital, also called Nakhichevan. It said the probable cause of the crash was engine failure.
