Actor Alec Baldwin was charged with misdemeanor battery Wednesday for allegedly punching and kicking a photographer Oct. 26, the Los Angeles city attorney's office reported.
Baldwin, who is accused of hitting Alan Zanger on the day Baldwin and his wife, Kim Basinger, arrived home with their newborn baby, was scheduled for arraignment Jan. 9 at Van Nuys Municipal Court, officials said.
Mike Qualls, a spokesman for the city attorney, said that if Baldwin, 37, is convicted, he would face a maximum of six months in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Baldwin, whose movies include "Hunt for Red October," "Beetlejuice" and "The Shadow," allegedly attacked Zanger shortly after the actor and his family arrived at their Woodland Hills home from Santa Monica Hospital.
Zanger, a well-known paparazzo, was waiting outside the Baldwin home in a pickup truck to photograph the family.
