Elsie Hix Chamberlin; Wrote ‘Strange As It Seems’ Column

Elsie Hix Chamberlin, 93, who wrote the family’s syndicated column “Strange As It Seems” for 15 years. A native of Allentown, Pa., she graduated from Cedar Crest College. In 1948, she succeeded her first husband, Ernest Harmon Hix Sr., in writing the newspaper feature started by his brother John Hix in the 1930s. Syndicated by United Features and internationally by United Press International, the column at its peak was printed in 1,300 newspapers, was on the radio and was published in book form.
