We Must Make Violence Unacceptable

Share

“It’s a Grim Mix for Kids, Poll Finds” (Dec. 7) cites some alarming statistics. Yet should anyone really be surprised by the large numbers of teens subjected to violence?

We are living in a society where violence has become socially acceptable. Rather than being the last alternative in a conflict, it is the first course of action for many people. Violence in sports creates idols while academic excellence is ridiculed. People on steroids and uppers strive with drug-induced confidence to win at all costs.

The only way teen violence, urban violence and violence against women will decrease is when we all choose to make it socially unacceptable.
