Firm Gets Big Data Processing Deal
Software Maintenance Specialists said it has signed a five-year contract worth $25 million to take over the data processing functions of Esprit de Corp., a San Francisco-based manufacturer of women’s and children’s apparel.
The contract replaces an earlier, $3-million agreement in which Software Maintenance Specialists was to manage Esprit’s data processing work while the clothing company switched to a newer computer network.
“They’ve turned over their entire [data processing] function to us,” Mike Winder, chief executive of Software Maintenance, said. As part of the agreement, Software Maintenance has hired most of Esprit’s 28-employee data processing department, he said.
Software Maintenance, which has large data centers in La Mirada and Irvine, will be responsible for managing Esprit’s data processing tasks, such as inventory and payroll. Winder said Software Maintenance expects to report sales of $43 million for 1995, compared with $18 million a year earlier.
