Harriman Heirs Settle Legal Dispute

NEW YORK — The heirs to the estate of former New York Gov. Averell Harriman and his widow, Pamela Harriman, the U.S. ambassador to France, have settled their legal dispute, lawyers for both sides said Friday.
In the lawsuit filed in federal court in New York in 1994, three generations of Harriman heirs accused the ambassador and her legal advisor, Washington power broker and former Defense Secretary Clark M. Clifford, of frittering away the family fortune and deceiving relatives about the poor status of investments.
A statement released Friday by the lawyers said that Harriman and the heirs had agreed to correct any inequities that resulted from investment losses. Specifics of the settlement were not disclosed.
