Obituaries : Dr. A. Estin Comarr; Educator, Urology and Spinal Cord Expert

Dr. A. Estin Comarr, 80, author, educator and surgeon specializing in urology. The Chicago-born Comarr was educated at USC and Chicago Medical School and did his internship and residency in Cleveland hospitals. After serving as a major in the Marines in Australia during World War II, he moved to Southern California in 1945 to work in the Birmingham General Hospital in Van Nuys and later the VA Hospital in Long Beach. He practiced medicine in Van Nuys, Long Beach and Lakewood and for 20 years was chief of urology at Rancho Los Amigos Hospital in Downey. Comarr taught at UCLA and lectured widely, including Temple University, the University of Alabama, Ohio State University, Southwestern Medical School and the University of Tel Aviv. A pioneer in medical treatment of spinal cord injury, Comarr wrote several books and articles about neurological urology. On Tuesday in Long Beach of complications after heart bypass surgery.
