Adopt Kids If You Want a Big Family

Share

Re “Society’s Message: Don’t Be Too Fruitful” (Dec. 28): Two women interviewed mentioned comments they’d received concerning whether having a large family in this day and age is a responsible action. I noticed that neither had an answer to the problem of overpopulation, although that may be because neither accepts the premise that there is a problem and that they are contributing to it.

Unfortunately, it is no longer simply “my business how many kids I have.” We all pay the price of overpopulation. We all deal with more and more pollution, more and more concrete, more housing developments on prime agricultural land, more trees cut down to build them, crowded parks, crowded schools, crowded freeways. And let’s not forget the ever popular, Where are we going to dump our garbage?

If people are so eager to have large families, why not adopt children who need loving parents?
