Budget Crisis Hits Home
The budget crisis in Washington is deeply affecting the lives of Valley residents. Agencies that receive federal funding--from VA hospitals to Social Security offices--are in limbo and those they serve are, in some cases, forced to do without.
* FEMA--The budget crisis slowed the earthquake recovery operation. School district damage reports and homeowners’ appeals for rental and repair funds are not being reviewed.
* Seniors--Senior centers continue to provide services, thanks to a $2.1-million loan from the city, but some services have been cut back.
* Health--Employees at the Sepulveda VA Medical Center continue to work--without pay.
