Two Roman Catholic nuns, an American and a Canadian, were found hacked to death on a beach in Ghana, police said.

The bodies of Patricia Maclese, 48, from the United States, and Claudia Murphy, 45, from Canada, were found Tuesday, police said. They did not release the hometowns of the women.

Two Ghanaians were arrested, police said.

The women had been killed with a machete on a beach near Cape Coast, about 90 miles west of Accra, the capital.
