Encino : 41 Trees to Be Planted in Student’s Project

Share

Forty-one sycamore trees will be planted along Hayvenhurst Drive this morning, in a project organized by a college student who lives in the area.

The trees will be planted in the median strip of Hayvenhurst between Ballina and Sapphire drives, the third phase of a project that has already lined the street with 50 trees.

The public is invited to help with the planting, which will start at 9 a.m. and is expected to end around 1 p.m., said Jerome Spruit, 21, the business administration student at Loyola Marymount University who coordinated the event.

In organizing the planting, Spruit is making use of his training from the TreePeople’s citizen forester program. The environmental group’s program teaches people how to coordinate tree-planting campaigns, teaching them everything from gardening tips to fund-raising methods.

Spruit said Friday that he expects 40 to 50 people to pitch in, and that the helping hands will be treated to free drinks from Carl’s Jr. and pizza from Numero Uno.
