A Swinging Love Seat to Build at Home

Do-it-yourselfers looking for a nice place to relax after a busy day might find it in this easy-to-build hanging love seat. Its armrests have cut-outs for holding cold drinks, and its bench seat is sized to hold standard cushions.

The hanging love seat project calls for standard redwood lumber (2-by-4s, 1-by-6s and 2-by-6s), along with hardware, straight-link chain, dowel pins and glue. Redwood was chosen not only for its beauty but also because it holds up well outdoors and resists decay.

This project is great for novices. Except for the heart designs, seat back and armrests, all the cuts are straight. After the pieces are cut, the love seat is assembled with wood screws and nails, then suspended from the frame of a porch or patio or from a strong tree.
