Officials have closed a $120-million deal to buy the 62-story Key Tower for a new City Hall.

City officials estimate the purchase of the red granite skyscraper will save about $90 million that otherwise would have been spent to improve a number of existing municipal government buildings over the next three decades.

Key Tower, completed in 1990 as the AT&T; Gateway Tower, has never been more than half full.
