Western Digital Corp.: The Irvine manufacturer of computer disk drives posted lower net income in the fiscal second quarter despite record revenue.

Net income totaled $36.4 million, or 75 cents a share, for the second fiscal quarter ended Dec. 30, which included a onetime, pretax gain of $17.3 million from the sale of its multimedia business. For the comparable period a year ago, net income totaled $42.6 million, or 85 cents a share. Revenue rose 37% to a record $758 million from $552 million.

For the six-month period, profit was $44.7 million, or 89 cents a share, down 42% from the $77.3 million, or $1.55 a share, a year ago. Revenue rose 30% to $1.3 billion from $1 billion.
