Obituaries : Mark Herron; Judy Garland’s Fourth Husband

Mark Herron, 66, an actor who was Judy Garland’s fourth husband. Reports of Herron’s marriage to Garland were alternately denied and confirmed in the summer of 1964. Garland’s manager, Freddie Fields, scoffed at reports of the marriage, pointing out that the actress was not yet divorced from Sid Luft. But Garland said the next day that the marriage to her longtime traveling companion was “absolutely legitimate.” The couple finally did make it official at a small chapel in Las Vegas in November 1965. Seventeen months later, Garland was granted a divorce after testifying that Herron had beaten her. He said he had “only hit her in self defense.” On Saturday in West Hollywood.
