“Phocis” Excerpts

Thomas W. Knopke, a teacher at Fullerton’s Nicolas Junior High, continues to hand out writings to his students and colleagues despite the controversy they’ve stirred. Knopke says his literature preaches a “very enlightened philosphy” that is inclusvie of all religions and races. Here are four examples of his “Phocis” writing:

*

“CONFIDENCE is the firm belief that you are just as good as anyone in the world; HUMILITY is the recognition that you are not any better!”

*

“I am not so disturbed by the vice and evils of this world as I am by the limits put on virture and truth to defend themselves!”

*

“The ball rebounds from the wall in proportionate force to which it is first pitched- let the thrower beware!”

*

“The weeds and grass

That grow from cracks

Are never really wanted!

Yet, still they grow

In spite of whacks

From sharpened hoe and axes!

*

So, if your woes,

From head to toes,

Are far too much to bear,

Remember all the weeds

And grass;

And life will seem more fair!”
