Nationalists Profited at U.S. Enron’s Expense
An analysis of the facts leads one to suspect that there was more than just Hindu nationalism behind the original scrapping of the Enron power project (“India Approves Revised Enron Power Project,” Jan. 9).
1. There is to be a 10% increase in capacity.
2. The cost, with the enhanced capacity, is to be reduced by $750 million, or nearly 30%.
3. Bottom line: The cost of power to the state is reduced by 22.5%.
I would think that the Hindu nationalists did very well for themselves and it is Enron that is eating crow.
