GM’s Latin American Sales Set Record: The No. 1 auto maker sold a record 503,300 vehicles in Latin America in 1995, an increase of 91,000 units, or 22%, from 1994. General Motors’ Latin American sales broke the 500,000-unit mark for the first time as industry sales in the region rose 6.5% to reach 2.8 million vehicles. Despite capacity constraints and new competition, GM said it increased its share of the Latin American market during 1995 to 17.9% from 15.6% in 1994. GM sells its vehicles in Latin America under the Chevrolet name.
