Concern Over Probst Fence Puzzles Cyclist

Share

For the past couple of years I’ve taken advantage of the fine bicycling found on Westlake Boulevard and the North Ranch section in particular. Last year your articles about the coming improvements in the landscaping on the corner of Kanan and Westlake enhanced those rides by explaining the changes that we were seeing. My fellow riders and I were impressed in a positive way by what we saw happening to a rather drab piece of land.

When you first reported that the fence Charles Probst had built would be taken down because it was too close to Westlake Boulevard, we thought that this issue would go away. Anyone driving by could see that his fence is set back further from the road than the fences both to the north and south of his property. Perhaps I’ve been able to make this observation due to the low speed at which I travel. Perhaps those complaining should slow down and look at where the rest of their neighbors have placed their fences in what appears to be a norm on this street.

I wish somebody would explain why only Mr. Probst’s fences are such a problem. In the meantime, I hope to enjoy watching a new “forest” grow and add to the pleasure of my bike rides.
